PedEgg foot file

Drugstores and mass merchandise stores, $10

The tester: Ometrice "O" Morris, 55, a retired nurse who lives in Wakefield.

The PedEgg is a new take on the callus-removing file. It has 135 very visible stainless steel blades. The makers promise the product will give you the look and feel of a smooth, professional pedicure at home.

Did it work? Yes!

In very little time and without even half the effort I expected, my winter-worn feet were baby soft and smooth. The product included an emery buffing pad. After I used that, my feet looked and felt "showroom new."

I got this little egg to reach all the areas under my foot without having to bend myself into a pretzel. It was surprisingly gentle. I don't think I can remember my feet ever being this soft, even after a visit to my favorite nail salon.

One word of caution. The packaging says the skin shavings are collected in a storage compartment. Don't believe it. I had skin flying everywhere.

So I rate this product an EC -- excellent with caution. Use a towel, and don't pry it open with your fingernail.
