CATS ARE CRUISIN': Scott Cousins' pinch-hit, three-run home run in the seventh inning provided Carolina with a 5-0 lead, and the Mudcats went on to defeat the Mobile BayBears on Sunday at Five County Stadium in Zebulon.

North Division-leading Carolina remained seven games in front of second-place Tennessee in the division.

Aaron Thompson (1-3) pitched seven scoreless innings, giving up three hits and striking out eight in his first Double-A victory.

Todd Doolittle earned his eighth save by pitching 1 2/3 innings for Carolina.

Gaby Sanchez broke a scoreless tie in the seventh when he unloaded his 37th double of the season down the left-field line to drive in Chris Coglan, setting in motion a five-run Mudcats uprising.

Sanchez, who needs one more double to break Carolina's season record, later scored during Alberto Concepcion's at-bat when Jose Marte threw a wild pitch.

Carolina's 2-0 lead increased when Cousins smacked a two-out pitch over the right-field wall to score Andy Jenkins and Chris DeLaCruz.
