Swarbrick hired as Irish AD

Lawyer replaces White, who left Notre Dame for Duke

Jack Swarbrick, a lawyer who helped draw numerous sporting events to Indianapolis, including the 2012 Super Bowl, is the new athletic director at Notre Dame.

Swarbrick was selected by school officials as the new athletic director on Wednesday. He succeeds Kevin White, who left the school on May 31 to become the athletic director at Duke.

Swarbrick was a finalist in 2002 for the NCAA president's position that went to Myles Brand, he was a finalist for the athletic director's position at Arizona State in 2005 and a finalist last year for commissioner of the Big 12.

BASEBALL

POSEY HONORED: Florida State catcher Buster Posey was selected as the winner of the 2008 USA Baseball Golden Spikes Award, presented to nation's premier amateur baseball player.

Posey, the 2008 ACC Player of the Year, led the NCAA in batting average (.472), on-base percentage (.572) and slugging (.908). The junior also led Florida State in saves with six and did not give up an earned run in eight appearances.

JEFFERS TO VANDY: Wide receiver Terence Jeffers has enrolled at Vanderbilt after transferring from Connecticut. He won't be able to play for the Commodores this season because of NCAA rules, but he can practice with the team. Jeffers will have two years of eligibility left.
