Teahouse seeks spot to park

Two years ago, Vivian Nicholsen-Holt took over an old Victorian house on Glenwood Avenue in Raleigh, painted the shutters pink and opened up a teahouse and showcase for local artists.

V's Teas & Treasures gained a loyal following, but Nicholsen-Holt recently shuttered the business. The reason, she told me, had nothing to do with business and everything to do with the circumstances.

New construction planned on Glenwood Avenue would eliminate the area where V's leased parking spaces. That change, combined with the need for an expansion of the house's kitchen, meant it made more sense to move.

V's is looking for a permanent location in Raleigh -- "something bigger with a commercial kitchen and ample parking," Nicholsen-Holt said.

Until then, she has taken up residence selling tea and tea accessories in Wake Forest at The Cotton Company, a shopping venue that plays host to lots of local artists and merchants.

The Cotton Company is at 306 S. White St. Other new vendors there include JinJa Fair Trade, selling handcrafted goods from artists in Uganda, India and Peru; a fashion merchant called The JAB Way; and The Vintage Room, selling candles and candle accessories.

In Raleigh, Margaux's restaurant signed a 10-year extension on its lease in the soon-to-be-renovated Brennan Station off Creedmoor Road and will begin construction on a new 50-seat patio next month. Construction should be completed this fall.
