FOUR-LEGGED RACE
Leash your pooch, lace your sneakers and head to Wake Forest tomorrow morning for the 2007 Paws for Life 5K-9 Road Race and Dog Walk.
Registration is from 8:30 to 9:45 a.m. and costs $25 for the 5K (sans dog) or $20 for the one-mile dog walk. The race begins at 10 a.m. and the dog walk starts at 10:15.
The event is at the Wake Forest College Birthplace at 450 N. Main Street.
Bring proof of current rabies vaccination for your dog, plastic bags for dog clean up and your dog's leash. Well-socialized dogs are welcome and must be leashed at all times.
A $10 micro-chipping clinic will begin at 9 a.m.
Net proceeds will go to a shelter fund and low-cost spay/neuter programs administered by The Franklin County Humane Society.

FALL FESTIVAL
Pony rides, games, concessions, face painting, bounce houses ... no, this isn't the N.C. State Fair, it's the St. Mark's United Methodist Church 2007 Fall Festival.
Join the fun from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. tomorrow at 4801 Six Forks Road near North Hills.
Children's music time starts at 12:15 with Trish Miller and fire trucks, police cars and ambulances will be on hand for kids to explore and a silent auction will be held to benefit The Methodist Home for Children.

A NIGHT WITH THE KING
It's always more fun to contribute to charitable causes when there's entertainment involved.
Jesica's Hope Chest, a nonprofit foundation created to help critically ill children, has two upcoming fundraising events that promise high entertainment value.
Tomorrow night Elvis, er, Keith Henderson, will present "Illusions of the King," an Elvis tribute show at 7 p.m. in Louisburg College Auditorium. (Ladies, doors open at 6;30 p.m. for the best seats.)
Henderson, a Chapel Hill native, started impersonating Elvis in 1978 and in 2002 won $50,000 in the Tribute to the King contest in Biloxi, Miss. He's performed with Elvis Presley's original band, the Jordanaires, and backup singers, the Stamps Quartet.

On Friday, Oct. 12, Jesica's Hope Chest will present its first charity golf tournament at River Golf & Country Club in Louisburg.
Tee off is a noon and the tournament ends at 5. The fee is $60 per golfer and includes a barbecue lunch. Call 497-0022 to reserve your ticket.

Learn about Olympic track and field events tomorrow from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Buffaloe Athletic Park.
Olympic medalists will offer tips to kids 6 to 18 years old at this free event. Make sure to wear comfortable clothing and, of course, your best running shoes.
