PLANT SALE

Wakefield High School's spring plant sale has been so successful that the school's Agricultural Education program is having its first fall sale.

From today until Sunday, plants will be for sale from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the school's greenhouse.

Pansies, snapdragons, ornamental cabbages, kales and mustards will be available as well as fall vegetables, mixed planters, herbs and an array of herbaceous perennials. A number of specialty perennials grown by Falls Revival Nursery will also be available.

Proceeds from the plant sale will benefit the Wakefield High School Agricultural Education program.

(NOT SO) FRIGHTENING FALL FESTIVALS

Games, food, crafts, pie contests ... no, it's not week two of the the N.C. State Fair. Area churches have begun their fall festivals and this weekend will see at lease two in North Raleigh and Wake Forest.

Saturday will bring Hope Lutheran Church's Hopefest, featuring pony rides, hayrides, a bounce house, obstacle course and bungee run, face painting and children's costume parade. The fun starts at 3 and continues until 6.

There will also be a craft bazaar, bake sale, and pie contest. Hope Lutheran Church is at 3525 Rogers Road in Wake Forest. For more information, call 554-8109 or visit www.hopelutheranwf.org.

If Sunday works better for your schedule, check out Soapstone United Methodist Church's Wild West Fall Fest & Family Carnival.

Games, caramel apples, hot pretzels, apple cider, live music and a giant bounce house should entice festival-goers. And if that doesn't' do it, check out Pecos Pete's Pumpkin Patch and Boss' Crazy Cattle Drive. The festival is from 3 to 5 p.m and is at 12837 Norwood Road. For information call 846-4062.

LICK OR TREAT

Your dog may not have a homemade T-Rex costume like Farley's, above, but that won't stop him from scoring free canine cake, doggie treats and giveaways Saturday at Gourmutt's Bakery.

Bring Rover from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. to the store's new location at 6675 Falls of Neuse Road in the lower level of Falls Village.

THEY'RE CRAFTY

Visit the 25th Annual Craft Creations show this weekend at Quail Hollow Swim Club for handmade crafts, decorations and baked goods from 13 artists.

The show's hours are from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. today and from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday.

The swim club is at 800 Orleans Place off Quail Hollow Drive.
