Donovan Ingram had 21 points, including four free throws down the stretch, as the Vikings held off Trinity 60-58 to win the N.C. High School Athletic Association 3-A boys basketball championship Saturday in Chapel Hill.
Reggie Bullock added 13 points for Kinston (28-4), which won its third 3-A title and sixth overall, and first since winning back-to-back titles in 1964 and 1965.
Josh Pittman hit seven 3-pointers to score 23 points for the Bulldogs (30-2), who fought back from a 13-point, first-quarter deficit.
ALSO SATURDAYWEST BLADEN 65, CANTON PISGAH 50: Tournament MVP Matt McCall scored 20 points and dished out six assists as West Bladen won its first state championship in any sport, beating Canton Pisgah in Raleigh for the 2-A title.
Canton Pisgah (25-8) did not hit a field goal in eight tries in the first quarter and was 0-for-15 before Jarrod Conard made a 3-pointer with 2:55 left in the second quarter. By then, West Bladen (30-2) led 23-8 and pushed it to 30-12 at halftime as Pisgah went 1-for-23.
Austin Moore led Pisgah with 15 points.
WINSTON-SALEM PREP 73, PAMLICO COUNTY 42: Reginald Johnson scored 25 points and set a state record with 23 rebounds as Winston-Salem Prep beat Pamlico County for its first 1-A title at UNC.
Marcus Wright added 21 points for the Phoenix (29-6). Maurice King led Pamlico (20-7) with 15.
Johnson, a 6-foot-9 senior who has committed to Miami, broke the record of 21 rebounds held by Rosman's Chris Thomas (1988) and Thomasville's Brandon Setzer (2003).
GIRLS CHAMPIONSHIPSFAYETTEVILLE WESTOVER 58, WEST CHARLOTTE 53: Tournament MVP Tequila Jones and Tiara Gause combined to score 17 of the Wolverines' last 20 points as Fayetteville Westover won its first 4-A state championship in Raleigh.
Jones scored nine of her 20 points down the stretch, and Gause had seven of her 12 in the final 2:51 as Westover (30-2) rallied from seven points down.
Christal Caldwell scored 22 for West Charlotte (29-3), which saw an 18-game winning streak end.
CONCORD 77, WILSON BEDDINGFIELD 62: MVP Nyshia Hammonds scored 20 points as Concord won the 3-A title in Chapel Hill.
Freshmen Jatzmin Johnson and Jhemelia Edwards had 16 and 13 points, respectively, and T.T. Belcher added 12 for Concord (31-2), which led by 19 in the first half.
Jean Best scored 21, and Monique Spry had 17 for the Bruins (30-2), who won the title in 2006.
EAST DAVIDSON 62, GRAHAM 59: Junior center Anna Freeman scored 18 points and grabbed 12 rebounds, and junior guard Alyssa Cutshaw scored five points down the stretch to send East Davidson to the 2-A title in Raleigh.
The Golden Eagles (27-4) trailed 52-46 with 5:22 left before Stacy Hicks hit a 3-pointer and Freeman, the game MVP, tied it at 52 with a three-point play. Cutshaw's 3-pointer with 1:03 left gave East Davidson the lead.
KiKi Allen led Graham (30-2) with 14 points.
KERNERSVILLE MCGUINNESS 56, PENDER COUNTY 43: Erinn Thompson had 14 points and 19 rebounds as Kernersville McGuinness won its third straight 1-A title at UNC.
Maggie Ronan added 16 points for the Villains (27-6).
Janetta Robinson scored 18 points for Pender (30-2), which shot 25 percent from the field and 8-of-19 at the free-throw line.
