N.C. State rallies to women's golf victory

The N.C. State women's golf team erased an eight-shot deficit to win the team championship by one stoke over UNC-Greensboro in the UNC-Wilmington Lady Seahawk Classic Tuesday at Wallace.

The Wolfpack had a three-round total of 896, matching its lowest round of the year with a final round, 3-over-par 291.

UNCG was second at 897, followed by UNCW at 900 and Campbell at 902.

East Carolina tied for fifth at 906 in the 16-team tournament.

UNCW's Carmen Perez-Narbon edged UNCG's Erica Creed in the first playoff hole to earn medallist honors.

N.C. State's Lauren Doughtie finished third individually at 219, two strokes behind the playoff participants. The Wolfpack's Stephanie Derrey was tied for fourth at 220.

East Carolina's Abby Bools was eighth at 223.

CAMPBELL SWEEP GIVES COACH 500TH WIN: Campbell defeated Charleston Southern 5-2 and 5-4 to give Camels coach Drew Peterson his 500th career coaching victory.

Peterson began his collegiate coaching career at his alma mater, Bethel College, where he spent 10 years, amassing a 283-150-2 record. After moving to Buies Creek for the 2001 season, Peterson has led the Camels to a 217-243-1 mark though nearly eight seasons.

PACK, RADFORD SPLIT: Lindsay Campana pitched the Wolfpack (23-19) to a 3-1 victory in the opener at Radford, giving up just one unearned run. Shanna Smith went 2-for-4 at the plate.

Radford (27-11) won the second game 4-1, hitting three home runs and five extra-base hits.

FSU SWEEPS ST. AUG'S: Visiting Fayetteville State held St. Augustine's to three hits in a doubleheader sweep, winning 10-1 and 15-0.

WOMEN'S TENNIS

DUKE 5, NORTH CAROLINA 2: The No. 7 Blue Devils (14-3, 7-2 ACC) won four singles matches to roll past No. 15 UNC (14-7, 5-3) at Durham.

UNC's Sanaz Marand took the No. 1 singles match, defeating Tara Iyer 6-3, 4-6, 10-6.
