No. 19 Wake Forest retained the team lead in the NCAA Central Regional in men's golf Friday in Columbus, Ohio, after posting a 3-over-par 287, three shots better than its first-round score.The Deacs, at 9-over 577, own a 10-shot lead over Alabama and will shoot for their third regional title since 2005 in today's final. Wake won back-to-back East Regional titles in 2005 and 2006.Wake's Brendan Gielow (72-141), Dustin Groves (70-142) and Webb Simpson (71-143) are in second, third and fourth place, respectively. Kevin Tway of Oklahoma State leads by two shots after a 2-under 69 for a 139 total.ALSO FRIDAYMORE MEN'S GOLFDUKE STANDS 12TH: Freshman Matthew Pierce fired a 4-under 67, and classmate Wes Roach shot a 3-under 68 to lead Duke to a 2-under 282, good for 12th place at even-par 568 after two rounds of the NCAA East Regional in Chattanooga, Tenn.However, N.C. State shot the second-worst score in the second round, firing a 12-over 296, 17 shots worse than Thursday's first round, for at 7-over 575.Darren Blair leads the Pack in the second round, as he finished with a 73 for a 1-over 143 total, good for 50th place.Brad Revell tied Blair with the Pack's low round of the day at 73 and was at 6-over 148.UAB's Zach Sucher tied the Council Fire Golf Club course record with a 9-under 62. He holds the individual lead with an 11-under 131, two shots ahead of Georgia's Hudson Swafford and three shots ahead of Georgia's Russell Henley.Georgia has a commanding lead in the event with a 32-under 536. Augusta (Ga.) State is second at 13-under with Auburn and UC-Irvine tied for third at 10 under (558).The top 10 teams and top two individuals not on advancing teams qualify for the NCAA Championships on May 28-31 at Purdue. Duke is four shots out of 10th place.UNC TIED FOR 16TH: North Carolina fell from seventh in the team standings to a tie for 16th place after shooting an 18-over 306 for a 601 total after two rounds in the NCAA West Regional in Bremerton, Wash.Southern California leads by five shots at 574 over Oregon.Joey Benedetti of Oregon leads by one stroke after firing his second 69. Dan Woltman of Wisconsin was second at 68-139.Chase MacFarland of UNC was tied for 35th at 76-148.
